CALEXICO, Calif., June 15, 2010Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) announced today it is awarding a $100,000 Technical Assistance Grant to the Neighborhood House of Calexico.  The organization will receive $50,000 at a check presentation tomorrow and $50,000 next year.  The grant will provide services to assist small businesses in the Imperial Valley in low-to-moderate income communities.  During April’s 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck the California/Mexico border, 80% of Calexico businesses were negatively impacted and are still recovering.

“On behalf of the Neighborhood House of Calexico, I would like to thank Wells Fargo for this very generous grant,” said Ricardo Ortega, Executive Director of Neighborhood House. “This donation will help our Calexico business community tremendously, as many are still recovering from the affects of the earthquake. We will be able to help small business owners obtain financial help from banks and other governmental financial institutions.”

Neighborhood House of Calexico provides business supportive services to Imperial County residents who are currently business owners or who desire to establish a new business venture.

“Our investment in this unique loan program is another example of Wells Fargo’s commitment to our community,” said Antonio Barbosa, Wells Fargo’s Southern California Community Development Manager.  “This is an innovative program that provides a flexible source of finance for businesses that may not be able to qualify for a standard bank loan.”

The Wells Fargo Technical Assistance grant lasts for two years and is awarded to 12 organizations throughout California. The Neighborhood House of Calexico is one of  only two Southern California organizations receiving this grant.  The Community Development Corporation (CDC) Small Business Finance, Inland Empire Chapter, located in Riverside is the second Southern California recipient of the $100,000 Technical Assistance grant.
